Welcome to the first episode of This Week in Gwinnett.
0:04
I'm going to be going through some of the important events and news this week, and at the end of the episode, I'm going to be going through some weekend events that you will not want to miss.
0:14
The Lawrenceville Spring Fair opened for the first time this year on April sixteenth, and it goes until April twenty-sixth.
0:21
So if you haven't had the time to go over and you've been wanting to check it out, you still have time. I hear they have goats, and I've also seen some videos of said goats, so honestly I'm sold.
0:34
In terms of the key news this week, April twentieth was the last day to register for the May nineteenth Georgia Primary, and April twenty-seventh will be the first day of advance voting.
0:48
Wednesday, some wildfires in South Georgia in combination with the heavy winds caused smoke to come up through Atlanta and even into Gwinnett County.
0:58
So this is kind of an ongoing situation, but if you're wondering how the air in your area is at any given moment, you can look up the AQI, which is the Air Quality Index, and that essentially just tells you any air pollutants that are currently in your area.
1:18
And these air pollutants also include pollen, but it should say in whatever report you look up, specifically which air pollutant is high at any given time, and any precautions you should take as well if that number is higher than it should be.
1:35
And if you have any respiratory conditions such as asthma, it's always recommended to err on the safe side and avoid going outside if possible, and just limit your exposure to the polluted air.
1:51
And this weekend, there are quite a few events that you're definitely going to wanna check out.
1:57
The first event is the Gwinnett Donut Festival, which I don't know about you, but when I hear the words Gwinnett Donut Festival, I just get super excited.
2:06
That is this Saturday, April twenty-fifth from ten AM to three PM. There are going to be over thirty donut makers, which also makes me even more excited.
2:17
The excitement is honestly just ramping up at this point, and fifty other sweet vendors. Also some music, food. I'm assum- assuming non-donut food, but who knows? It might just be like all donuts. I'm assuming it's not.
2:34
[chuckles] As well as some games and a donut eating contest. I was so excited about donuts, I almost forgot to even say where it was. Anyway, this is going to be in Shorty Howell Park in Duluth.
2:48
The next event is a family-friendly camping event called the S'mores and Snores, and that is at Rogers Bridge in Duluth, and it starts at five PM.
3:03
It's ten dollars po- per four-person campsite. Boy, that's a tongue twister, at least for me. [chuckles] And goes basically until the next day. So if you are looking for a family-friendly event,
3:20
lots of s'mores, and hopefully some snores, definitely check that out. And if neither of those events are your type of thing, we also have The Night Shift this Saturday at seven PM, goes until eleven.
3:37
And this is actually a recurring event every Saturday from seven to eleven, and you will find some karaoke, specifically music trivia, and some themed cocktails.
3:53
And then the next day, also at Polton Row, is Music Bingo, which honestly I don't know what that means, but that intrigues me. Some things just by the name intrigue me.
4:05
So that will start on Sunday the twenty-sixth at five PM, and that's also a recurring event. So if you go, you really enjoy it, congratulations 'cause it's happening again.
4:17
[chuckles] And that's all I have for you this week.
